Progression

⌚ Coming Soon

This page includes planned content for the next season of TCE Survival.

Everything here is subject to change before implementation!

Core progression has been completely overhauled to provide alternate gameplay tailored towards more experienced players. This new progression system has been greatly extended with the goal of addressing some of Minecraft's core progression issues.

We strongly recommend you try to discover things for yourself before relying on these pages. The advancement menu always provides you with hints for what to do next!

Overview

Why do we need a progression overhaul?

Minecraft's progression has remained almost completely unchanged since beta. That's over 10 years! In that time, the game and its community has evolved far beyond anything imaginable back then.

In terms of objectives, Minecraft is an extremely basic game to complete. The 2nd best tool tier in the game can easily be obtained within an hour of starting a new world. If you're dedicated enough, you can even slay the dragon in that time. But if we wanted to get the best stuff immediately, then we'd be playing Creative mode!

This has lead to modern Minecraft feeling stale for a lot of players, hence why many seek out mods to revitalise the game by introducing new gameplay features or fall into cycles of playing the game for just a short period of time once in a blue moon.

Our system instead seeks to reinvent the game at its heart, revamping progression and making the early-game more impactful. It also attempts to recapture the feeling of playing Minecraft for the first time with new features to explore.

Even if you're not sure, give it a try! You might just find yourself having fun rediscovering the game!

Progression is more challenging than you'll be used to and will keep you in the early-game for longer. Each tool level brings new objectives to complete before you can move on.

This guide is split into "tiers" of progression spread across 3 pages with clear goals outlined at each stage. This is to help you break down the game into bitesize chunks, like missions or quests.

Tool Tiers

Tool progression has been redefined to follow a more realistic sequence. You'll begin in the stone age, progressing through eras of history.

Wooden tools have been removed, with Stone now taking their place.

Early Game

Wood can no longer be broken using your fists. Most playthroughs will begin by scavenging sticks and rocks to make primitive tools before discovering fire and agriculture.

Next, you'll make a furnace and eventually a blast furnace allowing you to smelt copper and iron for stronger tools.

Mid Game

Once you have iron tools, you will progress towards automation and industry, generating power to run facilities ranging from small contraptions up to full scale factories.

Advanced materials require multiple steps to craft, making use of different stations provided by the Create mod.

Late Game

At this stage, you should be well equipped to tackle the game's toughest structures. You'll go on a journey uncovering the lost history of this Minecraft world to venture into the End.

Once you reach the End and defeat the dragon, new resources await you in its outer expanse.

Progression Tier Handbook

Tiers can also be used to quickly communicate what stage of the game you're in. Each tier can refer to a specific milestone you are currently working towards:

  • Tier 2: Copper Tools

  • Tier 3: Iron Tools

Mid Game

  • Tier 4: Diamond Tools

  • Tier 5: Precision Mechanism

  • Tier 6: Netherite Tools

Late Game

  • Tier 8: Defeating the Dragon

  • Tier 9: Enderite Tools
