Changes have been made to various existing structures to give them new purpose, giving players more reasons to challenge these locations.

Dungeon

Chests in dungeons can now contain some specific potions, allowing a way to get these items as valuable consumables before brewing becomes available.

Ocean Monument

Monuments have been re-envisioned as the new source for the trident.

Drowneds can no longer drop tridents. Instead, each Elder Guardian drops 1 elder prismarine, which are used in a new crafting recipe.

Woodland Mansions

The loot available in mansions has been greatly buffed to reflect the difficulty of these structures. Forge rooms, dining halls, libraries and storerooms have all been given new custom loot to uncover.

Evokers have wisened up a little and will now use their totems during raids. If you want to get one for yourself, you'll need to invade their home turf.

Ancient Explorer Maps

Unlike other maps, Ancient Explorer Maps can only be found stowed away in the map rooms within woodland mansions, pointing towards the long lost Ancient City.

Nether Fortress

Fortresses have been changed to reduce the grindy nature of obtaining Wither Skeleton Skulls.

Wither Skeletons now have 40 HP and only drop skulls when killed with a trident. The drop rate has been increased to 12.5%.

Blazes now have 30 HP.

Ancient City

The Eye of Ender recipe has been replaced with a new item, the Ender Catalyst. This item demands an echo shard on top of the vanilla recipe, requiring you to challenge a city if you want to reach the End dimension.

In the unlikely event your city runs a little short on echo shards, the Warden now drops 1-2 shards on death.

Cartographer villagers can sell woodland explorer maps if you're in need of a direction.

Shades

The Deep Dark is now inhabited by lost souls eternally wandering in the darkness. Shades will automatically despawn if the Warden is summoned.

These new mobs ensure the Deep Dark does not become safe once the sculk shriekers are removed.

Beacon Forging

By throwing an ender catalyst into an active beacon beam you can forge an eye of ender, making defeating the Wither a required step in reaching the End.

The beacon now also requires netherite and sturdy sheets to craft:

The Wither has been buffed to roughly match its Bedrock Edition counterpart.

It will now also teleport itself downwards if trapped in bedrock or another block it cannot break.
